Plus Six

When you first get into a Morgan you know that you’re not in a Porsche. You’re comparing Hugo Boss with Savile Row. A tour of the factory convinced me that the bespoke nature of the Morgan experience had me hooked. A subsequent visit to the Porsche factory museum convinced me that I didn’t want off the peg!

The Plus Six looks like a traditional Morgan, albeit a lot wider. Morgan has done a great job of making a very fast, economical classic looking sports car with a Jekyll and Hyde nature. The car is an absolute missile, with a sub-4 seconds 0-60 time and abundant torque. Fuel consumption is incredibly good, with 37-40mpg average. Handling is very good, albeit not as crisp steering as my Fiat 124 Spider. I made sure that my Plus Six was a 2024 model with traction control. Driving an earlier car without this feature is not for the faint hearted, as the massive power of the engine can overwhelm the Avon tyres quite easily and those cars have a reputation for being difficult to catch when they let go.

The heated comfort plus seats are phenomenal and live up to their name. The hood is still a bit like a Silver Cross pram and not a patch on the lined offering and super quick Fiat 124/Mazda MX-5 offering. The car is quieter with the hood down at speed. But remember that the hood is likely to tear off if you get the car anywhere near its 166mph top speed.

But you know these things when you consider a Morgan. It’s the ultimate high days and holidays vehicle.

The Morgan experience is something special, from the dealers, Brands Hatch Morgan and Williams Automobiles in my case to the constant attention the car gets from onlookers and the camaraderie with fellow Morganistas.

The Plus Six is a considered choice, but so rewarding.
