Looking at overall running costs, both models reveal some interesting differences in everyday economy.

MG MGS5 EV is significantly cheaper – starting at 32,600 £ , while the SERES 5 costs 55,700 £ . That’s a price difference of around 23,143 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the MG MGS5 EV is noticeably more efficient: consuming 15.5 kWh/100km compared to 18.6 kWh/100km for the SERES 5. That’s a difference of about 3.1 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the MG MGS5 EV offers slightly more range – reaching up to 480 km, about 50 km more than the SERES 5.

MG Brand clearly not as it once was, Chinese owned swamping the SUV market with cheap affordable SUV's, but low reliability rating (2025)

We have recently moved from an ID3 to and MGS5. For me, the S5 feels a decent upgrade. The build quality really surprised me, especially in the cabin. the drive is also reassuringly solid, and in my opinion better than the ID3. the MGS5 is slightly quicker, but not too much that it is noticeable, and also more practical due to it's size.
Gone are my days of thinking MG was now just a cheap Chinese alternative. Go and test drive one, you'll see!

SERES 5
