Looking at overall running costs, both models reveal some interesting differences in everyday economy.

Mazda CX-5 is significantly cheaper – starting at 30,000 £ , while the Volvo EC40 costs 46,500 £ . That’s a price difference of around 16,543 £.

Engine and Performance:

Under the bonnet, it becomes clear which model is tuned for sportiness and which one takes the lead when you hit the accelerator.

When it comes to engine power, the Volvo EC40 offers substantially more power – delivering 442 HP compared to 141 HP. That’s roughly 301 HP more horsepower.

When accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h, the Volvo EC40 is clearly quicker – completing the sprint in 4.6 s, while the Mazda CX-5 takes 10.5 s. That’s about 5.9 s quicker.

Mazda is much better designed. Audis are pretty ugly overall, especially the "Q" series.

I've been driving Mazdas for about ten years now without problems and with a lot of enjoyment. The last 3.5 years in a CX‑5. A really nice, smooth car that can tow quite a bit too, although I wouldn't recommend doing that with the FWD because it lacks grip on the front axle — so if you fit a towbar always choose the AWD. The only downside I can think of, after long consideration, is... nothing 🤔
