Costs and Efficiency:

Looking at overall running costs, both models reveal some interesting differences in everyday economy.

MG MGS5 EV is noticeably cheaper – starting at 32,600 £ , while the Polestar 2 costs 42,000 £ . That’s a price difference of around 9,429 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the Polestar 2 is very slightly more efficient: consuming 14.8 kWh/100km compared to 15.5 kWh/100km for the MG MGS5 EV. That’s a difference of about 0.7 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the Polestar 2 offers markedly more range – reaching up to 659 km, about 179 km more than the MG MGS5 EV.

MG Brand clearly not as it once was, Chinese owned swamping the SUV market with cheap affordable SUV's, but low reliability rating (2025)

We have recently moved from an ID3 to and MGS5. For me, the S5 feels a decent upgrade. The build quality really surprised me, especially in the cabin. the drive is also reassuringly solid, and in my opinion better than the ID3. the MGS5 is slightly quicker, but not too much that it is noticeable, and also more practical due to it's size.
Gone are my days of thinking MG was now just a cheap Chinese alternative. Go and test drive one, you'll see!
