Price and efficiency are often the first things buyers look at. Here it becomes clear which model has the long-term edge – whether at the pump, the plug, or in purchase price.

Mazda CX-5 is clearly cheaper – starting at 30,000 £ , while the Honda CR-V costs 40,200 £ . That’s a price difference of around 10,209 £.

Fuel consumption also shows a difference: the Honda CR-V uses 2.6 L/100km and is clearly more efficient than the Mazda CX-5 with 7 L/100km. The difference is about 4.4 L/100km.

The fuel economy you report in your test is, of course, nonsense. This is a plug-in, and so you're being fooled. Of course a CR‑V isn't more economical than an HR‑V. Think!

My 2026 CR‑V hybrid has had no problems. It’s quieter than my previous 2019 RAV4 hybrid. The exterior finish feels more solid across the whole vehicle. It’s less affected by crosswinds. I prefer the CR‑V’s driving. Its only drawback is that it uses just a little more fuel than the RAV4.

Very comfortable, lots of space, combined fuel consumption about 6 l, reliable, simple to operate, without unnecessary gadgets, very well made, easy to drive, a car for the city and long trips.

Good car, very comfortable. It still drinks petrol — I do a lot of driving, so the hybrid system only makes itself felt in traffic jams....

I've been driving Mazdas for about ten years now without problems and with a lot of enjoyment. The last 3.5 years in a CX‑5. A really nice, smooth car that can tow quite a bit too, although I wouldn't recommend doing that with the FWD because it lacks grip on the front axle — so if you fit a towbar always choose the AWD. The only downside I can think of, after long consideration, is... nothing 🤔
