Looking at overall running costs, both models reveal some interesting differences in everyday economy.

VW T-Cross is considerably cheaper – starting at 21,400 £ , while the Volvo XC40 costs 41,900 £ . That’s a price difference of around 20,511 £.

Fuel consumption also shows a difference: the VW T-Cross uses 5.4 L/100km and is noticeably more efficient than the Volvo XC40 with 6.5 L/100km. The difference is about 1.1 L/100km.

I chose the T‑Cross — more comfortable and roomier inside, especially for adult passengers; bought on the model‑year clearance — running costs work out cheaper even taking into account fuel savings from the Toyota hybrid (planned over five years); I like the space and the VW suited me better — I prefer the view through the front windshield.
