When it comes to price and running costs, the biggest differences usually appear. This is often where you see which car fits your budget better in the long run.

MG MGS5 EV has a noticeable advantage in terms of price – it starts at 32600 £, while the BMW iX1 costs 41800 £. That’s a price difference of around 9266 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the advantage goes to the MG MGS5 EV: with 15.50 kWh per 100 km, it’s slight more efficient than the BMW iX1 with 15.80 kWh. That’s a difference of about 0.30 kWh.

Power, torque and acceleration are the classic benchmarks for car enthusiasts – and here, some clear differences start to show.

When it comes to engine power, the BMW iX1 has a evident edge – offering 313 HP compared to 231 HP. That’s roughly 82 HP more horsepower.

In acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, the BMW iX1 is a bit quicker – completing the sprint in 5.60 s, while the MG MGS5 EV takes 6.30 s. That’s about 0.70 s faster.

In terms of top speed, the MG MGS5 EV performs minimal better – reaching 190 km/h, while the BMW iX1 tops out at 180 km/h. The difference is around 10 km/h.

There’s also a difference in torque: BMW iX1 pulls distinct stronger with 494 Nm compared to 350 Nm. That’s about 144 Nm difference.

In curb weight, MG MGS5 EV is to a small extent lighter – 1710 kg compared to 1940 kg. The difference is around 230 kg.

In terms of boot space, the BMW iX1 offers slight more room – 490 L compared to 453 L. That’s a difference of about 37 L.

We have recently moved from an ID3 to and MGS5. For me, the S5 feels a decent upgrade. The build quality really surprised me, especially in the cabin. the drive is also reassuringly solid, and in my opinion better than the ID3. the MGS5 is slightly quicker, but not too much that it is noticeable, and also more practical due to it's size.
Gone are my days of thinking MG was now just a cheap Chinese alternative. Go and test drive one, you'll see!
