Here’s where it gets real: The technical differences in detail

Costs and Efficiency:

When it comes to price and running costs, the biggest differences usually appear. This is often where you see which car fits your budget better in the long run.

BMW iX1 is markedly cheaper – starting at 42,300 £ , while the XPeng G9 costs 51,100 £ . That’s a price difference of around 8,743 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the BMW iX1 is clearly more efficient: consuming 14.3 kWh/100km compared to 18.4 kWh/100km for the XPeng G9. That’s a difference of about 4.1 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the XPeng G9 offers slightly more range – reaching up to 585 km, about 71 km more than the BMW iX1.

Intuitive to operate, excellent tactile feel, high seating position. More range or a larger battery would be desirable, but that would be nitpicking at the highest level.

Delightful driver's car. Light-footed, quick, silent and sporty.
If the range could be improved, it would be absolutely top.
You do have to buy a few option packs to make it fun — expect to pay around 70 grand.

I drove the Mercedes EQS and the Xpeng G9 Performance. The Xpeng is an ultra-modern, voice-controlled car with excellent build quality, a superior sound system and air suspension. I now understand why VW invested €700 million to buy a 5% stake in Xpeng. VW cars in China now run on Xpeng technology.

I've seen and driven both cars. The XPeng 9 makes more of an impression. The Zeekr 7x's interior color is limited to black — a real shame! For a nicer contrast you'll have to have it wrapped in a different color. But that's a matter of taste! Otherwise the cars are comparable, noting that the XPeng is a proper SUV while the Zeekr 7x is a crossover.
