Price and efficiency are often the first things buyers look at. Here it becomes clear which model has the long-term edge – whether at the pump, the plug, or in purchase price.

MG MGS5 EV is noticeably cheaper – starting at 32,600 £ , while the Kia EV5 costs 39,400 £ . That’s a price difference of around 6,858 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the MG MGS5 EV is marginally more efficient: consuming 15.5 kWh/100km compared to 16.9 kWh/100km for the Kia EV5. That’s a difference of about 1.4 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the Kia EV5 offers marginally more range – reaching up to 530 km, about 50 km more than the MG MGS5 EV.

MG Brand clearly not as it once was, Chinese owned swamping the SUV market with cheap affordable SUV's, but low reliability rating (2025)

We have recently moved from an ID3 to and MGS5. For me, the S5 feels a decent upgrade. The build quality really surprised me, especially in the cabin. the drive is also reassuringly solid, and in my opinion better than the ID3. the MGS5 is slightly quicker, but not too much that it is noticeable, and also more practical due to it's size.
Gone are my days of thinking MG was now just a cheap Chinese alternative. Go and test drive one, you'll see!
