Price and efficiency are key factors when choosing a car – and this is often where the real differences emerge.

MG ZS is clearly cheaper – starting at 18,000 £ , while the Nissan X-Trail costs 34,200 £ . That’s a price difference of around 16,166 £.

Fuel consumption also shows a difference: the MG ZS uses 5.1 L/100km and is moderately more efficient than the Nissan X-Trail with 5.7 L/100km. The difference is about 0.6 L/100km.

With all the features it offers at that price, the MG has no competition. A BMW X1 of similar dimensions with a few extra upgrades costs more than twice as much, and considering that 40% of MG’s spare parts come from Germany (Bosch, Continental, etc.), I’d go for the MG ZS Hybrid without a second thought.

I drive an Outback every day; I had an X‑Trail as a courtesy car while mine was in for service. First impression after a few kilometres of driving — the suspension is a disaster. You get the feeling this car picks up every single imperfection in the tarmac. Also, at idle the engine causes noticeably more vibrations in the cabin than the Subaru.
