Looking at overall running costs, both models reveal some interesting differences in everyday economy.

MINI Countryman has a barely noticeable advantage in terms of price – it starts at 31500 £, while the MG MGS5 EV costs 32600 £. That’s a price difference of around 1020 £.

Engine and Performance:

Under the bonnet, it becomes clear which model is tuned for sportiness and which one takes the lead when you hit the accelerator.

When it comes to engine power, the MINI Countryman has a noticeable edge – offering 313 HP compared to 231 HP. That’s roughly 82 HP more horsepower.

In acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, the MINI Countryman is somewhat quicker – completing the sprint in 5.40 s, while the MG MGS5 EV takes 6.30 s. That’s about 0.90 s faster.

In terms of top speed, the MINI Countryman performs distinct better – reaching 250 km/h, while the MG MGS5 EV tops out at 190 km/h. The difference is around 60 km/h.

There’s also a difference in torque: MINI Countryman pulls evident stronger with 494 Nm compared to 350 Nm. That’s about 144 Nm difference.

Space and Everyday Use:

Beyond pure performance, interior space and usability matter most in daily life. This is where you see which car is more practical and versatile.

Both vehicles offer seating for 5 people.

In curb weight, MINI Countryman is minimal lighter – 1620 kg compared to 1710 kg. The difference is around 90 kg.

In terms of boot space, the MINI Countryman offers to a small extent more room – 505 L compared to 453 L. That’s a difference of about 52 L.

In maximum load capacity, the MINI Countryman performs hardly perceptible better – up to 1530 L, which is about 89 L more than the MG MGS5 EV.

We have recently moved from an ID3 to and MGS5. For me, the S5 feels a decent upgrade. The build quality really surprised me, especially in the cabin. the drive is also reassuringly solid, and in my opinion better than the ID3. the MGS5 is slightly quicker, but not too much that it is noticeable, and also more practical due to it's size.
Gone are my days of thinking MG was now just a cheap Chinese alternative. Go and test drive one, you'll see!
