Costs and Efficiency:

Price and efficiency are key factors when choosing a car – and this is often where the real differences emerge.

VW Touran is substantially cheaper – starting at 36,000 £ , while the Volvo XC90 costs 74,300 £ . That’s a price difference of around 38,310 £.

Fuel consumption also shows a difference: the Volvo XC90 uses 3.4 L/100km and is significantly more efficient than the VW Touran with 5.2 L/100km. The difference is about 1.8 L/100km.

I drive both cars. The XC90’s boot is — contrary to the figures posted here — noticeably larger than the GLC’s when carrying five people. Overall the XC90 is clearly the more comfortable and, above all, the more stable — and therefore the safer — car.

VW Touran

The VW Touran is a sensible family people‑carrier that mixes practical packaging with tidy, German-built refinement, making everyday life with kids and shopping feel a lot less chaotic. If you want a reliable, no-nonsense companion that drives with surprising poise and values usefulness over flash, the Touran is a very persuasive choice.

It really is the Swiss Army knife. Six people on holiday at a summer cottage including all their luggage. Or how about four people in the car plus a dishwasher standing in as baggage. Or five people, two of them in child seats plus two strollers in the back. And it's also super comfortable on long trips. You sit well and it has a nice interior. Today there's nothing comparable that can replace it. Oh, and it actually does the 16–17 km/l it's rated for.
