Price and efficiency are key factors when choosing a car – and this is often where the real differences emerge.

BMW iX1 is very slightly cheaper – starting at 42,300 £ , while the VW ID.7 costs 46,400 £ . That’s a price difference of around 4,033 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the VW ID.7 is only slightly more efficient: consuming 13.6 kWh/100km compared to 14.3 kWh/100km for the BMW iX1. That’s a difference of about 0.7 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the VW ID.7 offers markedly more range – reaching up to 708 km, about 194 km more than the BMW iX1.

Intuitive to operate, excellent tactile feel, high seating position. More range or a larger battery would be desirable, but that would be nitpicking at the highest level.

Delightful driver's car. Light-footed, quick, silent and sporty.
If the range could be improved, it would be absolutely top.
You do have to buy a few option packs to make it fun — expect to pay around 70 grand.

Range is completely wrong compared to what’s shown. In reality you can only rely on about 60% of the distance. The boot only opens for whoever has the key? That’s a massive headache for my work.
