Here’s where it gets real: The technical differences in detail

Costs and Efficiency:

Price and efficiency are key factors when choosing a car – and this is often where the real differences emerge.

VW ID.4 is substantially cheaper – starting at 34,800 £ , while the XPeng G9 costs 51,100 £ . That’s a price difference of around 16,303 £.

In terms of energy consumption, the VW ID.4 is somewhat more efficient: consuming 15.4 kWh/100km compared to 18.4 kWh/100km for the XPeng G9. That’s a difference of about 3 kWh/100km.

As for electric range, the XPeng G9 offers marginally more range – reaching up to 585 km, about 15 km more than the VW ID.4.

The ID.4 is a bit pricey, but very pleasant to drive. Its winter range could be better — then again, that's a problem all EVs are facing right now.

An ID.4 with 340 hp is not comparable to the Aiways U5! The U5 only has 204 hp! The ID.4’s boot is too small, rear legroom is too tight, no frunk, and it’s a bit confusing…

I drove the Mercedes EQS and the Xpeng G9 Performance. The Xpeng is an ultra-modern, voice-controlled car with excellent build quality, a superior sound system and air suspension. I now understand why VW invested €700 million to buy a 5% stake in Xpeng. VW cars in China now run on Xpeng technology.

I've seen and driven both cars. The XPeng 9 makes more of an impression. The Zeekr 7x's interior color is limited to black — a real shame! For a nicer contrast you'll have to have it wrapped in a different color. But that's a matter of taste! Otherwise the cars are comparable, noting that the XPeng is a proper SUV while the Zeekr 7x is a crossover.
